Welcome to my website
I am a writer of Young Adult fiction. The Sky Pharaohs, my Young Adult Science Fiction manuscript, won the 2006 Children's Book Council of Australia NSW's Frustrated Writers' Mentoring Competition. Through winning this competition, I was given the opportunity to work with a mentor to improve The Sky Pharaohs, and then send the manuscript to a publisher for their feedback. My mentor was Australian writer Pamela Freeman. With Pamela's help, I spent six months redrafting The Sky Pharaohs, and you can read about my experiences here.
I am currently working on my next Young Adult novel, Surviving Kelly Tracey, which is set in the "real world" but is based on Norwegian mythology. I have been writing about my progress on Surviving Kelly Tracey in A Was Alarmed, my blog.
If you would like to read "The Normality Game", a short story I wrote in 2001, you can do so here.
Resources for Writers
I have developed some planning grids for writers to use, as well as some word lists which writers and teachers may find useful. You can find these materials on my writing page. Please feel free to use any of these materials for non-commercial purposes and adapt them to suit your needs.
English Language Teaching Resources
From 1995 to 2005 I worked as an English Language Teacher, in particular at Nunoike Gaigo Senmon Gakko, Japan, and at technical and further education colleges in Australia. While I was working as an EFL/ESL teacher, I developed various materials for English language learners and I have put a selection on my teaching resource pages. The handouts are divided into the areas of:
